Community Garden

Located at Community Sharing in Cottage Grove

The Community Sharing Garden, a quarter-acre solidarity garden located behind the Cottage Grove food pantry, provides fresh and nutritious food 365 days of the year, no questions asked, to anyone who needs it. Our mission is to fight food insecurity, nutrient deficiency, and alienation.

We have delivered thousands of pounds of fresh produce to the food pantry at Community Sharing, and composted many more thousands of pounds of rotten produce into fertilizer for our garden – thereby reducing our local greenhouse gas footprint by preventing food waste methane emissions created through food waste (methane is a greenhouse gas 26 times as powerful as CO2!).

To get involved, please email Alexandra Kaul (alexandra@rurallivelihoods.org) or just show up during our volunteer shifts: Wednesday 11am-3pm. You can also garden at your leisure – the gate is open during daylight hours. Follow us on instagram @communitygardencottagegroveor and subscribe to the CRL mailing list [insert hyperlink] for more updates.

Many thanks to the Earth and Social Justice Committee of the First Presbyterian Church of Cottage Grove, the Upper Willamette Soil & Water Conservation District, the Cottage Grove Community Foundation, the OSU Master Gardeners Association, and the Woodard Foundation for their financial support of this project. We would like to extend gratitude to Irma Kaul, Walter Kaul, Margot Huber, and Philipp Huber, for surviving the Nazis and teaching us the way and the value of this work.
